The error boxes of two gamma-ray burst sources, SGR 1806-20 and GB 811016, have been observed with the Ginga X-ray astronomy satellite in a search for steady X-ray emission components. Upper limits of about 10 to the -11th erg/sq cm per sec in the energy range 1.1-10 keV for a blackbody spectrum has been set for them. These two gamma-ray burst sources were chosen as the most likely targets for a steady X-ray component because one of them (SGR 1806-20) bursts repeatedly, indicating an active phase, and the other (GB 811016) produced a burst with one of the largest fluences ever recorded. The high flux of this burst suggests that it is close to the earth.
