In order to study the solidification process along thickness direction in solvent cast polymer film, the weight and the film stress of polystyrene(PS)/toluene solution coated on a glass substrate were in situ monitored under a fixed drying condition (20oC). The first bending point of the changing rate of the solution weight was found to be the solidification point at the surface region. On the other hand, the solidification point at the interfacial region between the film and the substrate was evaluated as the starting point of the shrinkage stress development. From these discussions, we proposed a model of solidification process of the solution cast under the condition of this study. The effect of drying condition on solodification process was also studied.
