アブストラクト
インターネットの普及に伴い，コンピュータを始めとする情報機器の高機能化，多機能化が進んでいる．家庭においてその利便性を享受するためには，「利用機会」 があることが重要である．本研究では，その利用機会を増やすための利用環境が，どうあるべきかを明らかにすることを目的とし，訪問インタビュー調査を行った．家庭内のコンピュータが，どういった場所でどのように使われているかを調査したところ，家族共用の部屋に置かれたコンピュータは，家事やテレビ閲覧など，他の作業と同時に利用されることが多いことが明らかになった．また，機器の置かれる場所や家族内の共有の有無により，機器の使われ方が大きく異なることが，示された．Many Internet-based social services exist that can raise our quality of life, but since the computers in most homes are poorly sited, they fail to reach their full potential. We conduct extensive interviews of typical Japanese families to determine computer usage patterns as related to computer location.The results show that even small changes in room arrangements have a significant impact on the rates of computer usage and user satisfaction. Moreover, we find that services must be carefully designed to emphasize background operation, the services should support multi-tasking, since most users are quite active in the home.
