Using a new crystal engineering tool, we prepared organic solid-state light-emitting materials that exhibit very bright monomeric emissions. Introducing flexible alkylene bridges into distyrylbenzene (blue fluorescent dye) generated the desired crystal structure in which each dye is isolated in a compact space.
