Off-line simulations and power-hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) tests using a real-time simulator (RTS) have been used as a method to verify the interaction between AC power systems and high voltage DC (HVDC) transmission systems. In our laboratory, a PHIL test environment was constructed by connecting a scaled down HVDC transmission system using modular multilevel converters (MMC) and an AC system using an RTS. This paper presents the system configuration and verification results.
